Hello from PayPal

“PayPal Digital Goods Senior Product Manager Position” – this was the title of an email I received from Janette, a Group Product Manager with PayPal, offering me to interview for a role on her team.

This sounded like a great opportunity and I immediatly replied Yes!

PayPal has been a dream company for me for many years, and one of my target companies when I started my full time job search during school’s second year. I always had a special place for PayPal as a few years ago, as a younger software team leader, I reached out to PayPal with the offer to help them open an office in Israel. Looking back at it, this seems like a simple “chutzpah”.

Four days after the initial email, I had a phone interview and a with Janette. I liked the discussion a lot and had a feeling I made it to the next round. PayPal recruiting team was really fast and efficient and I on the next day received an invite for the next round.

Nine interviews later I received an offer letter to join the team and happily said yes!

On May 02 2011 I started my new role, attending an offsite event in Hotel Vitale.

This looks like a very interesting team and product. It’s a great company and with a strong position in the market, and I’m so exciting to join.

I got my H-1 visa

A year after graduationI finally got my H-1 visa which allows me to work.

Back in January I had the honor to join Kontera, the leader of in-text advertising and I am currently a Senior Manger, Product Solutions.

It’s been a long process to find a job and I already have a few posts in process about it. I’d like to take this opportunity to all the people who supported me during this process.

There are still many MBAs like me – who graduated with, or just this week – who are working hard to find the right place. Good luck to all of you, let me know if I can help.

Israel: A Leader in Business Innovation

Dan Senor and Saul Singer recently published a very interesting book about Israel economy and culture: Start-up Nation: The Story of Israel’s Economic Miracle

The book describes the miracle of our nation – producing more start-up companies than large economies like Japan, China, India, Korea and UK. It explains how Israel attracted over twice as much VC money then the US and over thirty over Europe.

Here is a short interview with Dan Senor on CNBC

eBooks for the Holidays

Looking for something to read during the Holidays?

Here are three options from very interesting writers:

1. Seth Godin organized some big thinkers to a new ebook called What Matters Now (PDF). It’s a fun reading . Ideas such as Sleep, Enough, Productivity, Most and more already made me  re-think about some of the stuff I am doing. Read more about the book in Seth’s post.

2. J.C Hutchins curated In The Nick of Time (pdf) which include free chapters from the recent work of fiction and non-fiction writers like Robert J. Sawyer, Chris Brogan and  Hutchins himself. It’s a nice way to learn about the wok of various people, some of them I was not familiar with. Read Chris’s description of the project here.

3. Valeria Maltoni who writes the blog Conversation Agent grouped together some 10 marketing experts in the Marketing in 2010(PDF) ebook.

Enjoy!

The power of combined Netflix Prizes

Havas Media Lab’s Director Umair Haque posted a very interesting post about the job market and the model of Netflix Prize. On his HBR post Umair calls for a new Manhattan Project that will refresh the economy.

This new project will include the launch a series of Netflix Prize-like projects in various industries – health care, transportation, energy, media, education, auto, banking. The challenge is to re-imagine these industries and transform them.

Think of groups of engineers, university professors, professionals and more, all competing and cooperating to solve the most burning issues. These groups together will create an extensive crowdsourcing effort. One that will change our world and improve it.
