My last post talked about The Global Brain book.

Today I’ve read about the Netflix challange dubbed Netflix Prize to improve its Cinematch. A wired magazine article describe a contest organized by Netflix in which teams and individuals from around the world are competing to increase the usability and accuracy of the recommendation service in the Netflix’s site.

Going back to the ideas presented in the book it seems to me as a typical Orchestra model in which Netflix is a conductor and players from around the world are the players. Unlike a typical concert this seems to be a group of solo players but the model described in the article offers future cooperation or co-use of different inputs from several players.

I personally vote for Just a guy in a garage, since I find his use of the work by the Israelis Tversky and Kahenman unique in the world of mathematical algorithms.
